2019 Legislative Report: Looking Back at Our First Year
In my first year in Congress, I’ve worked hard to improve the lives of Arizona families — to create good jobs, protect our environment, expand access to affordable health care options, and boost small businesses.
We hit the ground running by taking on committee assignments that would help me fight for Arizonans on bipartisan issues such investing in local transportation and infrastructure projects. And I’m proud that in my first year in Congress I’ve fought to protect Arizona’s water supply and the Colorado River, stood up for Luke Air Force Base against potential budget cuts, cosponsored a universal gun background check bill, and have made sure our state gets its fair share of federal transportation funds.
Yet, the most rewarding work is often serving as a voice for everyday Arizonans when they need it most. So far this year, my team has helped more than 600 district residents with issues they have with the federal government and has returned more than $1.3 million in federal benefits owed to them.
If my office can be of service to you, please reach out and let us know how. I look forward to continuing to serve you.
Legislative Victories
- My bill to extend security for Supreme Court Justices was signed by the President into law.
- I advocated for an improved trade agreement with our North American Allies, and we passed the USMCA through the House.
- 9 other bills I cosponsored were signed into law, including the Arizona Court Access Bill to expand federal court access for Arizonans and the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund.
- The Colorado Drought Contingency Plan was signed into law.
- I fought for — and won — funding for local transportation and infrastructure projects: $100 million to build the South Central light rail extension; $75 million for the Tempe Streetcar; and $24 million to support growth at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
